Continuing my evaluation. I have a few questions on this function

1) When subscribing from iCal Calendar, user just have to copy and paste the URL link. I noticed it does not require user to enter any password. Anyway to force user to enter a valid password ?

2) In the documentation, it is recommended to filter the calendar to show future events by using the Display Only FLAG method. Can I also add an additional filter like user can only subscribe to future events that belongs to him or her ?

3) Is there a function to allow user to un-subscribe ?

I did further test and come to the following conclusions to my own questions

(1) I have tried with Apple Calendar and Google Calendar. It looks like there is no way to prompt for password.

(2) I could not find any information in the documentation. Hope someone can provide answer to this

(3) Unsubscribe can be done from Google calendar

Hi there –

1) There is no built-in way to prompt for a password when subscribing to a sosimple calendar. It’s a bit of a hack, but you may be able to do this by setting up authentication on your server. How do it is more than we can explain here, but these resources might be helpful:

2) There are several ways to filter events on the calendar. The same filters that you use within FileMaker Pro or on our web-based implementation, also apply to iCal filters. See “Server Powered Mode” here:

I am thinking of doing this way
(1) There are only a handful of managers that have Google Calendar
(2) In soSimpleCalendar, I create one calendar for each manager. This way, manager subscribes to his or her own soSimpleCalendar. Managers will not know the URL. So in a way, it is quite secure.
(3) The office Administrator add managers’ appointment into their respective calendar. I only have to filter future event for each of the manager

Is this something doable ?

That sounds like it will work fine.

The office administrator can even have a single calendar that includes everyone, and add events to that. The “Show only records” setting in soSIMPLE can then limit the manager’s calendars to their own data very securely.

This is fine for a handful of managers. There are other options if it becomes burdensome to create and manage multiple soSIMPLE calendars.
